“Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood, for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child’s soul.”
Country Creche ECE Centre – Discover, Wonder & Explore
Welcome to Country Creche!
Our centre, Country Creche is an independently owned and operated childcare centre located in Matangi which is only a short drive from Cambridge and Hamilton. We are licensed for 72 children and have three separate buildings and cater for young children’s early childhood education and care.
Our centre is situated in a lovely rural location with lots of room for children to engage in a range of fun, stimulating learning experiences. We have plenty of grass, natural trees and gardens, an orchard where we harvest fruit, animals including rabbits, chickens, birds, quails and plenty of neighbouring horses, cows and goats.
We foster a strong connection with our children and their families, and we invite them to spend time in the centre and share their aspirations for their child while they are with us. We have ‘family days’ and evenings and celebrate cultural celebrations such as Matariki and Diwali.
• We are open Monday to Friday 7.30 am to 5.30pm
• We are closed for statutory and public holidays
• The centre is closed for 2 weeks at Christmas time

Good preschool education is important for every child. Make the right decision by choosing Country Creche!
At Country Creche we work closely with our Early Childhood Curriculum Te Whariki. Learning outcomes underpin our teaching practices and making sure we are supporting and providing a curriculum that has positive outcomes for our children.
We plan our children’s learning based on individual strengths, interests, needs, dispositions and schema as well as working closely with parents/whanau and their aspirations for the children while the attend Country Creche.
We provide a play-based learning environment with limited structured times in the day. Research shows that young children learn best by exploring in an environment that is designed to promote their learning.
We believe that by children having uninterrupted play this promotes children to learn at their own pace without interruption.
We provide a caring, enriching environment where children can express themselves while engaging in positive social interactions and develop an understanding of social situations.

Our Vision at Country Creche is to provide a place of exploration, discovery and wonder. We believe that our spacious environment allows our children to explore in open spaces and gives them the opportunity to take risks.
Children have the chance to discover through meaningful interactions with teachers, children and nature in a safe, nurturing, fun environment.
We know that wonder is a familiar human emotion and our environment allows for children to be curious and delighted by the natural wonders of the world around us.
Transitions to school.
Our Preschool teachers support our children when they attend the ‘kickstart’ programme at Matangi school. The teachers will at times stay with the children and support them in the school environment and help them settle.
We know how important it is for your children to feel a sense of belonging in their new environment and believe that our teachers’ presence can make this transition to school easier for our children. We are also available to help support children with their transition to Tamahere, Tauwhare and Newstead.
Our Centre is privately owned by Andrew and Robyn Martin and is managed by Hannah Smith who has been working at the centre for over 16 years. Three wonderful, passionate and engaging Team Leaders lead the three rooms with more enthusiastic teachers.
We have 3 qualified ECE teachers who work with our babies and run at above 80% qualified as a centre.
• Under Two’s 4 months to approx. 24 months (10 children)
• Over Two’s 18 months to 3.2 years (28 children)
• Pre-School 3.2 years to 5 years (32 children)
Children transition between buildings depending on their readiness and consultation with families. Country Creche believes in maintaining a quality adult to child ratios. The adult to child ratio is above the regulated requirements and are as follows:
• Under Two 1:3
• Over Two 1:6
• Pre-school 1:8
At Country Creche we believe in celebrating all celebrations that make our Country Creche family so special. This includes Birthday, Christmas, Easter, Matariki, Diwali, Mothers and Fathers days just to name a few.
We invite our families/whanau to come and celebrate with us in the centre and find this is an awesome opportunity for parents to engage with their teachers as well as other families/whanau that attend the centre.
At Country Creche we provide morning and afternoon tea. Our morning teas are rolling which means that children can come and go when they feel the need. Children are encouraged to select their morning tea from a few different options. This helps promote independence.
Please bring along a named lunch box with healthy food for your child as well as a drink bottle.
Water will also be available for the children throughout the day with the Preschool having a drinking fountain.
• A booking fee of $50 covers the cost of a wet bag, sun hat, Storypark, and a portfolio book
